Iran's Q4 Red Meat Output Down 23 percent
A total of 81,500 tons of red meat were produced in Iran during the fourth quarter of last Iranian year (Dec. 22, 2018-March 20) to register a 23% decline compared with the similar period of the year before.

The Statistical Center of Iran's latest report shows beef accounted for more than 47,100 tons or 57.9% of overall production. 

A total of 26,400 tons of lamb, 5,800 tons of goat meat and about 2,100 tons of meat of other types of livestock were produced during the three months, making up 32.4%, 7.2% and 2.6% of the total production respectively, SCI reported on its website.

Iranians' consume around 920,000 tons of red meat per year, 90% of which are supplied domestically.

The top 10 red meat production hubs in Iran are Khorasan Razavi, Fars, East Azarbaijan, Mazandaran, West Azarbaijan, Isfahan, Khuzestan, Tehran, Ardabil and Hamedan provinces.

Imports are made from CIS countries as well as Brazil and Australia.

Former Deputy Agriculture Minister Hassan Rokni told Financial Tribune in an earlier interview that Iran's red meat market is worth 248.793 trillion rials ($1.66 billion).

According to Karamali Qandali, the head of Nomadic Affairs Organization of Iran, Iranian nomads supply 25% of the country's demand for red meat.
